Panic Button

The Panic Button is an optional feature of the Desktop Notifications application. It is a one-way communication feature that behaves similarly to the Mobile BlueLight feature in the AppArmor Safety app product.

If you enable the Panic Button feature, users will be able to triple click on the tray icon to activate the Panic Button. Activating the Panic Button will cause a notification to appear in the AppArmor Dashboard. Clicking the notification will lead the Dashboard user to the “Panic Button Alerts” page of the Dashboard, where you can see all of the information about the device which activated the Panic Button.

Here are the default Device Details that we collect when a Desktop Panic Button is initiated:

  • Device Name

  • Device ID

  • Created Date

  • Manufacturer

  • Model

  • OS Name

  • OS Type

  • OS Version

  • Username

  • IP Addresses

  • Groups

  • Additional Groups

  • User Settings Profile

Desktop Shortcut

Some clients want to have, in addition to the tray icon, a Desktop Shortcut that will activate the Panic button. This is available for the Windows application only.

To configure the Desktop shortcut:

  1. Install the Desktop Alerts program as usual.

  2. Navigate to the Program Folder (for example - C:\Program Files (x86)\AppArmor Desktop Notifications)

  3. Right click the executable file and choose "Send To Desktop (Create Shortcut)"

  4. This will create a shortcut on your desktop

  5. Find the shortcut on the desktop, right click and choose "Properties"

  6. In the "Target" field, add " /panic" to the end of the existing value. For example,:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\AppArmor Desktop Notifications\AppArmor Desktop Notifications.exe" /panic

  7. Note that there is a space before the "/"

  8. You should now be able to double-click this desktop icon to activate the panic button capability.

Note that this is not a triple-click like the tray icon. The shortcut operates the same way as any regular desktop icon.
