Location Variables Tab
Location variables are special variables with predefined options. They differ from dropdown variables in 2 ways:
You can add location metadata to each option.
You can create parent-child relationships between values of a location variable.
You can select multiple location values at the time of sending a notification.
When you navigate to the Location Variables Tab, you’ll see a list of existing variables, as well as a “New Location Variable” button.
You can also delete existing variables from here. If you delete an existing variable and leave the placeholder in your Templates, the field will behave like a Text Field the next time a sender uses a Template with the variable.
Variable Details
Click New Location Variable and enter a unique name, or click View/Modify to edit an existing variable.
Either option will bring you to the Variable Details page. Here you can see the existing values for the location variable. A value is an option that a user will be able to select for this variable when sending a notification.
Add/Edit Location Value
To edit a location value, simply select that value.
To add a new Location value, select the value you’d like to be the new value’s parent, and click the “+” button to add a location value. If it’s a top-level value, select the variable name, enclosed in square brackets (ie “[Location]”.
Map
When adding or editing a variable, you can optionally add location metadata to the variable value. This can take the form of Pin, Circle, or Polygon. If you select this variable at the time of sending, this information will be added to the CAP XML generated by the notification, compliant with the format described in the CAP Standard, section 3.2.4.
Values and Abbreviated Values
You can enter values, and optionally, abbreviated values for each location value. The abbreviated value will only be used in character limited Alerting Mechanisms, and are optional.
Rename Variable
You can rename the variable if desired.
Note that renaming a variable does NOT edit your Templates. If you rename a variable, you’ll need to find all instances of it in your Templates and replace it with the new variable name. For this reason, renaming variables is not recommended.
Up/Down
Similarly to Templates, you can use these buttons to decide what order the values will appear in the Location.
