Email-To-Push
Overview
This document outlines the steps required to set up “Email-To-Push” for your AppArmor app. This allows for very easy integration with existing notification systems.
There's a good overview of the feature on our blog: http://blog.apparmor.com/post/new-feature-send-push-notifications-by-emailing-your-safety-app
Getting Started
Configuring the feature is easy! First, we need to know what the "from" email address is for your mass notification system. You should:
Send a message through your existing system to the email address support@apparmor.com
We’ll look at this email and whitelist the email address that it came from.
Testing
Next, you’ll test your configuration using “Draft Mode”. To test, you can put some of your staff devices into "draft mode". This is done be completing these steps within the app:
Launch your app on your phone
Tap "About / Preferences" -> "Notification Settings"
You should see a "Version 4.xx.xxxx" label at the bottom of the screen. Tap it 7 times in a row.
A password dialog will appear. Enter your draft password.
You'll notice a "Disable Draft Mode" button appear below the version number. This means you are now subscribed to "draft" notifications. (When you are done testing, you can tap that button to unsubscribe from "draft" notifications.)
Next, send an email from your mass notification system to [yourschool].draft@push.apparmor.com (explanation below). Any devices subscribed to "draft" notifications should receive the message. If there are any issues with testing, please let your support contact know!
Using Email-To-Push
There are two email addresses that you will use for email-to-push on their app. There is a "draft" email address for testing, and a "production" email address to send messages to all the app users.
The email addresses correspond to the url of your AppArmor Dashboard. For example, if your Dashboard was http://[yourschool].apparmor.com, the email addresses would be:
Draft: [yourschool].draft@push.apparmor.com
Production: [yourschool]@push.apparmor.com
Ask your support contact if you are unsure about which email you should send to.
Configuring Email-To-Push
To access this page, click on the “Configure Email-To-Push“ Link on the Email-To-Push history tab( refer to How to create and send Push Notifications for the Send Notification Page).
The configuration page consists of two sections.
Configure: where the user may configure what email address and/or what ip address is permitted to send an Email-To-Push.
Replacements: where substitutions of the Email-To-Push message can be set up.
Production Sending
Congratulations! You’re now set up to use Email-To-Push. Send production messages by emailing [yourschool]@push.apparmor.com
