The Desktop Notifications app for Windows is available in two installer options, Setup.exe and MSI installers. The Setup.exe installer is best suited for manual installations be end users. The MSI installer is best for network installation or remote installation by administrators using device management software.

Both installers can be downloaded with or without an AutoUpdate capability. The AutoUpdate capability is most useful for end user installations using the Setup.exe installer.

Download Desktop Notifications Client App (Windows)

You can configure the installers using the options on this page. Changing the options will apply the selected configuration. For MSI installations, a sample installation command will be displayed based on the configuration selected.

Installer Type

Choose either Setup.exe or MSI (Network Installer).

  • The Setup.exe installer is best suited for manual installations be end users. Based on your other selections, the EXE file is modified to apply the correct settings when the user installs and runs the app for the first time.
  • The MSI installer is best for network installation or remote installation by administrators using device management software. Sample silent installation command is provided, and is modified based on your other selections.

AutoUpdate

Both installers can be downloaded with or without an AutoUpdate capability. The AutoUpdate capability is most useful for end user installations using the Setup.exe installer. Most clients installing with MSI across an entire environment prefer to update the application themselves. Updates to this application are released infrequently.

User Settings Profile (Optional)

Choose a User Settings Profile (more information on setting these up at User Setting Profiles) that will be applied to the installer. You should only select a User Settings Profile when you want users to be able to manage groups themselves. This is not likely to be used for Network Installations (MSI).

Groups (Optional)

Select the groups that the devices should be subscribed to the first time the device registers. Note that the “all” or “desktop” group is hardcoded, and all devices will always register for that group. It is not included in this list.

Groups - Setup.exe

The groups you select are baked into the Setup.exe file.

Groups - MSI

The sample silent installation command is edited to include the GROUPS parameter. The installer itself is not modified in this case.

Networking

Only outbound https connections are needed (port 443).  There shouldn't be any firewall changes needed.
